Despite Claims of Mail in Voting Fraud, Trump Encourages Republicans to Vote by Mail

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As we get closer to the midterm elections, more and more states have begun their early in-person voting. Dozens of states have already started mailing ballots to voters for the election and despite the President’s repeated claims of mail in voting fraud, he recently encouraged Republicans to vote early by mail.  

President Donald Trump, who has a long history of casting doubt on our election’s integrity, including voting by mail, a method he has used himself to cast his ballots, appears to be reversing course in a recent video: 

“If your state has early voting, do not wait, go out and vote,” said the President in the video posted on his Truth Social account. “Vote early, vote by mail or in person. Election day is November 3rd so we can defeat the radical left Democrats in a midterm victory that is too big to rig.” 

“That video is going to come in very handy when the president inevitably tries to delegitimize either of those forms of voting, even if he’s not happy with those results,” said David Becker, executive director with the Center for Election Innovation and Research.   

Becker estimates more than a million ballots have already been cast for the midterms, most of those by mail. He said by the end of the week more than half of all states will begin their early voting process.  

“I remain baffled about the possible disruptions, things the President might try or want to try when the reality is the election is going very smoothly,” said Becker. “It has faced several potential challenges, all of which have failed and elections are going on under state law as they’re supposed to. There have been very few problems that have occurred.” 

Becker maintains that our elections are secure.  

“I’ll just remind everyone that in 2016 states that had significant mail in ballots, President Trump won the majority of those states,” said Becker. “In 2024, he won the majority of those states. Mail voting is secure. Sometimes states with a lot of mail in voting, vote for Republicans. Sometimes for Democrats. We’ve had it for decades. We’ve had it since at least the Civil War, so this is not political at all even though the President is trying to make it that way and I’m sure election officials are taking note of this video and will use it if the President makes false claims in the aftermath of the election.”
